Analysis of hemoglobin mean values and W.B.C differential counts of the healthy people in a rural area

Abstract
The objective of this study is to find out the relationship between hemoglobin values and W.B.C. differential counts for healthy rural people examined by physicians.
The data used in this study were collected from 601 healthy persons (male 280 persons, female 321 persons) determined by physicians¢¥ examination among 3,665 persons inhabiting in Chun-sung County, Kang-won province, from September 21 through October 30, 1976.
The mean values of hemoglobin (Hb), W.B.C. differential counts of persons diagnosed as healthy by physicians were used as standards.
The results analyzed are as follows:
1. The mean values of Hb. by ages and sex were as following:
Male: Infant below 1 year 9.9¡¾1.24g/dl, 1-4 years 10.1¡¾1.06g/dl, 5-9 years 11.0¡¾0.83g/ dl, 10-14 years 10.7¡¾1.32g/dl, 15-19 years 11.8¡¾1.69g/dl, adult 12.5¡¾1.35g/dl. Female: Infant below 1 year 10.2¡¾1.28g/dl, 1-4 years 10.3¡¾1.01g/dl, 5-9 years 10.8¡¾ 1.09g/dl, 10-14years 11.0¡¾1.39g/dl, 15-19 years 10.8¡¾1.09g/dl, adult 10.6¡¾1.428/dl.
2. Hemoglobin above average was defined as the mean values plus one standard deviation, and hemoglobin below average was as mean values minus one standard deviation by ages. The people who had above average hemoglobin was 17. 1% and below average 16.1% of 280 males; 12.8% and 15.3% of 321 females.
3. The mean values of the W.B.C. differential counts by sex were:
4. The mean values of the W.B.C. differential counts by hemoglobin above and below average by ages were as follows:
5. Among those with hemoglobin values above average, the percentage of neutrophil washigh whereas the percentage of lymphocyte was low or the contrary the percentage of neutrophil was low and that of lymphocyte was high, among those with hemoglobin value below average, showing a statistically significant difference in comparison with the healthy people of both sexes.
